About Us

Who Are We

MetroStormChaser is composed of volunteers who have a passion for weather and storm structure.  Our group of volunteers monitor severe weather moving through our communities to better assist local authorities, including the National Weather Service, by providing accurate real-time weather alerts.  Our chase team in Mississippi chases on frequence 146.52, 151.82, and FRS/GMRS 7-7 as-well-as discord or zello for communication over broader areas.  Our chasers are equiped for livestream via our Twitch and YouTube pages.

Communication

MetroStormChaser volunteers use various communication methods while operating to ensure personal safety and deliver rapid alerts to public officials and the public.  Our volunteers use cellular (4gLTE/5g) networks and radio (VHF/UHF) communication devices to transmit live weather alerts to the proper authorities.  Training for HAM stations are carried out weekly with our local radio club.

Monitoring Weather and Supporting Chasers

MetroStormChaser has permission to utilize a local church control room for weather monitoring and stream control whenever severe weather moves through central Mississippi.  The control room is setup with everything we need to monitor and support our chasers as they navigate these storms impacting our communities including contact with local authorities and the public.
